Q: What is the quality of the wood used for AJS Woodworking's cabinet doors?

A: We use only Select Grade wood for our cabinets.
- The Oak is a Northern Appalachian Red Oak with a tight grain and selected for color uniformity.
- The Maple is a White Hard Maple selected for color uniformity and whiteness.
- The Cherry is a Select Grade with a minimum 95% of heartwood (redness) on the front. We do our best to be consistent with the degree of heartwood in the Cherry and buy from the same mill or at least the same area. Please note that the back of the doors are NOT heavy heartwood, but will be 25-60% heartwood.
- The Paint Grade Maple is unselected Hard Maple. This wood is not solid in color and is ideal for painting or staining with a VERY dark stain.
- The Flat Panel doors have veneers which are A1 (good 2 sides) in Maple, Oak and Cherry. The panels are 5.2mm thick.

Q: What are the wood doors sanded to?

A: Wood door finishes are sanded to a180 grit.
The doors are not lacquered or stained.

Q: Are the wood doors unfinished, do you apply a clear lacquer?

A: The wood doors are unfinished. We can apply a clear lacquer, for an additional $20.00 CDN per square foot; this can be ordere seperately. We can also stain or paint doors on demand.

Q: What does "drill" mean on the Order form?

A: "Drill" on the order form refers to the location of the hinges. It does NOT refer to drilling for knobs.

Q: How is the drill location for hidden hinges determined and what is the cost?

A: The drill location is determined when the door is viewed face on. The cost for drilling per door is $8 CDN

Q: What size are the drilled holes in the cabinet doors?

A: Holes have a standard size; 1 3/8 inches or 35mm in diameter. This is a standard size for the industry. We do NOT drill holes for the knobs or handles or any opening/closing mechanism.

Q: Position of the drill holes on the doors.

A: The holes are drilled with a 3 5/8 inch TOP to center.
Note: The drill hole is 1/8" or 1/4" from edge of door.
We can do custom drilling. Send us an e-mail at: sales@cabinetdoordepot.com specifying your needs.

Q: How can I measure to replace my existing cabinet door? Do I provide the actual door measurement or frame opening measurements?

A: Provide us with the actual door size you require, including the amount that is required as the overlay. We do not add or subtract from any of the measurements.

Q: How can I measure the size of door that is required for an Inset cabinet door?

A: For an Inset door, measure the door 1/8 of an inch smaller, all the way around the opening of the frame.

Q: How can I determine whether I have FRAMED or FRAMELESS cabinets?

A: Ask yourself this question: When all cabinet doors are closed, what are the gaps between doors?
It is usually FRAMED if: Wide gap at least 1/2 inch
It is usually FRAMELESS if: Gap is approx. 1/8" to 1/4" between all doors and there is no face frame.

Q: How do I measure to replace framed cabinet doors?

A:
FRAMED CABINETS WITH HIDDEN HINGES:
Overlay on framed cabinets with OUR hidden hinges are a max 5/8" overlay, min ½”"
- For a ONE door cabinet: add 1 to 1 1/4 inches to the frame opening width. This gives an overlay of a 1/2" to 5/8" on both sides.
- For a TWO door cabinet add 1" to the width and divide by two - this gives you the width of the doors Ignore any centre stile (post) and measure  the  whole opening. The minimum width of stile required for our hinges is 1 3/8 of an inch if both cabinet doors are sharing the same frame.
FRAMED CABINETS WITH EXPOSED HINGES:
- For a ONE door cabinet: add 3/4" to your opening width.
- For a TWO door cabinet, with no stile (post) in the middle of the opening: add 3/4" to the width and divide by two.

Q: How should I take measurements to replace frameless cabinet doors?

A: To replace frameless cabinet doors, the best thing to do is to measure the existing doors.
- For ONE door cabinet: measure the outside width of cabinet box and reduce by 1/8"
- For TWO door cabinets: measure the outside width of cabinet, subtract 1/4" then divide by two.

Q: DECIMAL CONVERSIONS

A: 1/16=.063  1/8=.125  3/16=.188  1/4=.250  5/16=.313  3/8=.375  7/16=.438  1/2=.500  9/16=.563 5/8=.625  11/16=.688   3/4=.750  13/16=.813  7/8=.875

Q: How is the vertical height of the cabinet door determined?

A: For the vertical height of the cabinet door, most people add 1" in total i.e., 1/2" overlay on each end. This is something that can be manipulated as long as there is clearance.

Q: What is the maximum height of a door you will make, and is there any extra cost in the manufacturing and shipping?

A: The maximum height door we manufacture is 60 inches for a wood door and 60 inches for an RTF/MDF door, providing the width of the door does not exceed 18 inches. We also put a cross piece in all wood doors over 50 inches in height. The additional manufacturing and shipping charge for oversized doors is $35 per door. This extra cost will be added to your order.

Q: How is the width measurement of a drawer front that sits above a cabinet door determined?

A: For drawer fronts and drawers that lie over cabinet doors, be consistent with the width of the cabinet door. The standard rule is that width of cabinet doors aligns with width of the drawer fronts. However, some styles may not follow the standard rule and thus use your discretion or measure your existing drawer fronts.

Q: How is a new drawer front fit over an old drawer front?
A: If an old drawer front does not come off, trim all four sides of the drawer front to make it flush with the box, and fit the new one on the top of the old drawer front.

Q: What is the thickness of the RTF/MDF and Wood cabinet doors?
A: RTF/MDF cabinet doors are 3/4" thick and Wood cabinet doors are 13/16".

Q: Are the glass cabinet doors rebated at the back?
A: Yes, all framed cabinet doors, both squares and arches are rebated at the back to accommodate a square piece of glass, 1/4" inch thick. The piece of glass will be secured by finishing nails or silicon, glass is not included.

Q: What are my cabinet door type options, if I wanted to paint the cabinet doors?
A: Cabinet door types that are paintable are:
- MDF cabinet doors
- Paint Grade Maple cabinet doors

Q: Do you offer hinges with greater overlays?
A: Cabinet Door Depot offers a hidden hinge that has a 5/8" to 11/16" overlay

Q: How do I measure for corner cabinet/lazy susan cabinet doors?
A: Measure from the inside corner of the cabinet to the edge of the opening, and add the desired overlay. Then deduct 3/4" and this will be the required width of the door. Do the same for the adjacent door. These two doors will meet at a right angle. At the meeting point of the doors there will be a gap where a piano hinge will fit.

Q: What is your  minum charge and return policy?
A: There is a $200 minimum charge before taxes for orders. Hardware is returnable, however cabinet doors and drawer fronts are not. You must call prior to returning and use a courier that will supply a tracking number. AJS Woodworking will charge a $25 restocking fee. Orders cannot be altered or cancelled after 24 hours
